THE PRAXIS CONNECTION

Toward Increasing Teacher Diversity
ETS offers support resources to help teacher candidates do their best.
Since 2006, the National Education Association (NEA) and ETS have worked collaboratively to support teacher candidates in preparing for The Praxis Series™ teacher licensure assessments.
NEA and ETS wanted to better understand why and how minority candidates struggle with teacher licensure assessments in order to improve interventions that could help address the problem.
Last month the results of this research were released in the report Toward Increasing Teacher Diversity: Targeting Support and Intervention for Teacher Licensure Candidates.
The report:
Summarizes the results of the data analysis and interviews to provide insight and direction for intervention
Describes some model intervention programs that have been developed to assist students
Offers commitments and recommendations for the future

Support for Your Students
To help candidates prepare for the Praxis™ exams, ETS has developed written, electronic and multimedia support materials designed to help each candidate perform well on his or her exam.
Support Materials that are available to candidates include:
Tests at a Glance — this comprehensive overview of each test tells candidates what they need to know for each topic on the test (including sample questions, answers and explanations)
How to Develop a Study Plan — this worksheet helps candidates develop a personalized roadmap to study for a Praxis test
Webinars and Videos — these online videos and seminars help candidates prepare for test day by providing insight into Praxis tests
Reducing Test Anxiety — this practical guide helps candidates understand and address test anxiety
General Information and Study Tips — this guide provides an overview that introduces the Praxis tests, explains how and what they measure, and provides information about the types of questions and tips for how to prepare
Practice Tests — these previously administered full-length tests include correct answers and give candidates an opportunity to practice taking the test. Select titles are available as interactive practice tests with an automatic scoring feature and optional timer to provide candidates with a simulated-testing experience.
Study Guides — these instructional books provide content outlines, test-taking strategies, study topics with sample questions and more
Study Plan on Demand — in-depth information helps candidates develop an effective and efficient study plan for the Praxis I® tests.
Additionally, in January, ETS hosted deans and faculty from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Tribal Colleges to attend ETS's HBCU, HSI and Tribal Colleges Invitational Conference. This conference builds upon the past four years of HBCU conferences and was expanded this year to include Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges. The attendees at this conference help to shape our test preparation array. The webinars, for example, are a direct outgrowth of this conference.
