Brent Bridgeman

Brent Bridgeman received a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1971. He joined ETS in 1974 after 3 years as an associate professor at the University of Virginia. He retired from ETS in 2023 as a distinguished presidential appointee. His recent work focused on validity and fairness issues related to test time limits, comparisons of paper-and-pencil and computer-delivered question formats, and scoring of essay assessments by both humans and machines. He has been an ad hoc reviewer for several journals including Journal of Educational Psychology, American Educational Research Journal, Review of Educational Research, Educational Psychologist, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Assessing Writing, Applied Measurement in Education, and Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice. He was an associate editor for the ETS Research Reports series and chair of the ETS Internal Review Board. He is the author or coauthor of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and 19 book chapters, and he holds 3 patents.
