Test Content and Structure

The GRE® Subject Tests are administered in a paper-based format. Total testing time is 2 hours and 50 minutes. There are no separately-timed sections.

The eight Subject Tests are described below:

• Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Computer Science
• Literature in English
• Mathematics
• Physics
• Psychology

When you register for a Subject Test, you will be sent a free Subject Test Practice Book that describes the test in detail and contains a full-length practice test you can use to prepare for the test. You can also download each test's practice book.
