ETS Showcases Latest Advancements and Research on Technology-Enhanced Assessments at CCSSO Conference

Research scientists from Educational Testing Service (ETS) will join educational assessment practitioners from the national, state and district levels at the upcoming Council of Chief State School Officers' National Conference on Student Assessment at the National Harbor in Maryland on June 19‒22. During the four-day conference, ETS will participate in 14 sessions, sharing research on innovative ways of assessing student achievement and taking part in discussions relating to policy issues.
During the conference's Technology Showcase, ETS specialists, who are helping to design and carry out research on innovative technology in assessment, will participate in two technology-focused sessions: "Designing Technology-Enhanced Assessments for Next Generation Students" and "Usability Research: Lessons Learned for Digital Assessment Delivery. "The interactive sessions will include some of the latest research and assessment efforts that ETS has been involved with including:
- utilizing tablets to assess English-language learners' English proficiency
- transitioning from paper-based assessments to online achievement assessments to assess progress of students in grades 1-3
- designing items to adapt to user-supplied hardware, including usability issues such as laptop interfaces versus tablet interfaces or using a traditional keyboard versus a touch screen keyboard
