Special Accommodations
Students with Disabilities
Make arrangements for administering the ETS® Major Field Tests to students with disabilities in the same way you would make arrangements for administering other important local tests.
For students who have difficulty filling in the bubbles on answer sheets, we suggest that students circle their answers in the test book. After the testing session, the test administrator would need to transfer the answers to an answer sheet for processing by ETS. The student's test book should be attached to the answer sheet.
The Major Field Tests online system does not offer format accommodations (e.g., different colored text and backgrounds or enlarged font sizes, which are considered most helpful to sight-impaired students).
Although ETS continues to work on providing these accommodations, the Major Field Tests are graphics intensive. Enlarged fonts, in particular, require excessive scrolling, which could place the student at a disadvantage. As an alternative, the Major Field Tests are available in Braille, in large print and on audio-cassette. Requests for tests with large print must be made six weeks in advance. Requests for Braille or audio-cassette format must be made three months in advance.
Results of the paper-and-pencil, large-print or Braille exam can be combined with results of the online tests for the rest of that institution's population.
Students Requiring Additional Time
A student should only be granted additional testing time for a Major Field Test if the same student receives similar accommodations for other exams and has previously demonstrated and documented the need for the accommodation.
Test administrators will need to contact Major Field Tests Online Technical Support at 1-800-514-8491 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Eastern Time to configure the Major Field Tests online system to permit additional testing time for a student. The student's countdown clock will be adjusted accordingly. Please follow the instructions outlined in the Administrator Manual.
For more information about the Major Field Tests or test administration, contact an ETS Advisor or call 1-800-745-0269. ETS Advisors are available Monday through Friday from 8–4:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
