In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the International Test Center (ITC), Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has agreed to set a standard for English-language proficiency companywide by implementing the TOEIC® test as their assessment tool.

ITC, Indonesia Country Master Distributor for Educational Testing Service (ETS), will administer the TOEIC test to employees of BNI to measure the skills of incoming employees and mark progress of those employees working toward a career in the global banking industry. "We are excited to be working with Bank Negara Indonesia in their effort to assess and develop the English-language skills of their employees," said John Ferdinan, ITC Commissioner. "We look forward to helping BNI establish a standard of English proficiency among their employees, as it will help build their reputation and business globally."

BNI is the fourth largest banking and financial service organization in Indonesia and the country’s first national bank. With 18,000 employees, BNI will be using the TOEIC test scores to assess new staff as well as employees eligible for promotion.

"The ability to communicate globally is becoming increasingly important in the financial sector, and we are pleased to provide BNI with the tools to maintain their position in this global industry," said David Hunt, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at ETS. "As the leading assessment of global workplace English, the TOEIC test will allow BNI to establish a standard companywide and further develop the language skills of their talented workforce."

The signing of this MOU between ITC and BNI marks a significant milestone for the TOEIC test in Indonesia where it is now being used by three of the four largest banks in the country.
