Princeton, N.J. (July 27, 2009) —
Educational Testing Service (ETS), the world's largest educational research and assessment organization, has been certified by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for its Business Continuity Management System. The BCMS program safeguards ETS's critical operations and systems as well as the integrity of information entrusted to the organization. ETS is one of only four U.S. companies receiving certification from this worldwide national standards body.
"Ever mindful of the high-stakes implications of the work we do at ETS, we strive to safeguard our critical operations, systems and brands," explains Bruce Gilbertson, Vice President, Strategic Bidding, Scoping and Business Resiliency. "To that end, we have an Enterprise Resiliency Program that meets or exceeds the rigorous requirements of the standard. Receiving BSI certification means that test takers, score users, clients and employees can have confidence that ETS has a comprehensive strategy to protect our people and mission critical processes and systems."
"ETS's business continuity management system involves all of the company's product lines and services," says Tim Mathews, Director of Enterprise Resiliency. "We understand our business requirements and implement recovery strategies and solutions that mobilize the critical personnel, systems, supplies and technology if and when needed."
ETS contracts with industry-leading suppliers to provide mobile recovery units, hot site, fail-over e-mail and emergency notification technologies in the event of a significant business interruption. Based on industry best practices and standards, ETS's comprehensive strategy integrates more than 200 business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Throughout the year, ETS conducts emergency management simulations, business continuity and disaster recovery walkthroughs, and validation exercises. The Enterprise Resiliency Program manages all testing exercises and executes them according to the defined objectives. All opportunities for improvement are captured, prioritized and implemented to enhance resiliency and future recoverability of ETS.
BSI Group originated as the world's first national standards body, and has more than 2,250 staff operating in over 100 countries.
