Princeton, N.J. (October 22, 2009) —
Educational Testing Service (ETS) today announced that it has signed an agreement with D2 Data Driven Software Corporation (D2SC), a leader in instructional and assessment management systems, to allow D2SC to distribute ETS® item banks together with D2SC’s comprehensive instructional and assessment management platform.
The relationship blends the core competencies of each organization — unparalleled psychometric research and assessment development with a tightly integrated suite linking data analysis, formative assessment and standards-aligned curriculum management.
“The agreement enables districts to choose from more than 58,000 items, aligned to national and state standards, when creating both district and classroom level assessments,” ETS Associate Vice President for Business Development Robert Block says.
The ETS item banks measure reading, mathematics, science and writing skills aligned to specific state standards measured by state summative tests. Thousands of high-quality items were carefully created by ETS using a rigorous item development process, and the items can be combined into benchmark or formative assessments to help educators understand and monitor student progress toward mastering state standards.
Users will be able to search by standard, subject, and grade level and select assessment items that best match the state standard within the local curriculum. As standards are updated, new alignments will be established and items will be both added and retired as appropriate.
Matt Winebright, D2SC’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, says, “Our exponential growth and success will only be fueled by being able to provide our clients with a high quality item bank. This agreement will enhance what we’re able to offer both districts and states. Now a district’s dream of having a fully integrated data, curriculum, assessment and grade book system that also includes superior quality test items can be realized.”
D2SC’s product is completely web-based and provides real-time access to data, giving their clients immediate feedback on student performance and aggregated class, campus and district performance information. Immediate access to detailed information allows educators to track students’ progress and instantly view and assign instructional materials, curriculum and resources ─ so they can be more proactive in guiding students to success on both local and state assessments.
“We are pleased to work with a world-class company like ETS,” D2SC President Ken Sumrall says. “This relationship creates a great synergy. Our goal is to make things as easy as possible for our clients and this is one more way that we will help with that.”
Block agrees. "Our core competency is in item and test development, so a strategic relationship with D2SC will help K–12 school districts improve efficiency and efficacy, in addition to helping educators develop and administer quality, customized assessments to improve student achievement."
