ETS Makes Large Donation to China’s Students in Need

New Great Wall Love Dormitory Project Aims to Reduce Student Poverty

As the 2011 exclusive care partner for the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation's (CFPA) new Great Wall Love Dormitory Project, Educational Testing Service (ETS) donated a cash sponsorship of RMB200,000 (USD$29,282.00) to support the project, which is designed to reach out to 200,000 university students from more than 30,000 dormitories in 100 universities nationwide.

ETS China, with the support of the TOEIC® program, is working toward becoming an annual charity partner of the CFPA in its poverty relief campaigns.

The Great Wall Love Dormitory Project is one of the most recognized university campaigns aiming to establish a platform for students to support public welfare and develop public awareness and donation habits. The program is promoted by student unions, which call upon their peers to donate their pocket change or used books in an effort to support pupils in disaster-ridden areas. Each "Love Dormitory" will install a "Pocket of Love" by CFPA to store the pocket change collected regularly to support the pupils in need.

CFPA launched the Great Wall Love Dormitory Project with a ceremony at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT). During the ceremony, ETS China Country Manager Enghan Tan delivered a speech, accompanied by CPFA Assistant Secretary General Chen Hongtao and BUCT Secretary of Party Committee Wang Tongqi.

"In the past, ETS has supported university students through its TOEIC scholarship programs and teachers through its Propell™ Teacher Workshops for the TOEIC tests and Global Scholar Programs. Now, we are pleased to further ETS's commitment to Chinese education and poverty relief."

CFPA Assistant Secretary General Chen Hongtao applauded ETS's contribution to the project and other charitable programs in China. "ETS's support will help to expand this program to more universities and secure more funds for China's students in need."

For more than 30 years, the TOEIC tests have set the standard for assessing English-language skills used in the workplace. Today, TOEIC test scores are used by over 10,000 companies, government agencies and English language learning programs in 120 countries. More than 6 million TOEIC tests were administered last year.
