Seoul, Korea (November 14, 2013) —
Educational Testing Service is kicking off the application process for the 2013 ETS TOEIC® Scholarship Program for Korea. ETS's TOEIC scholarship program was introduced to Korea in 2008 to recognize the academic exceptionalism of Korean students. In this coming academic year, ETS will award 24 US$3,000 scholarships to help Korean students further their education.
"ETS is delighted to continue supporting the academic distinction of Korean students through the administration of the TOEIC scholarship program," said David Hunt, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ETS's Global Division. "By providing Korean students with the opportunity to earn one of our valuable scholarships, we can advance both the ETS and TOEIC program missions of increasing quality and equity in education and promoting a strong command of English in the workplace."
TOEIC scholarships are awarded to students who have superior academics, demonstrate an interest in mastering English and exhibit well-rounded qualities, such as participating in extracurricular activities — including community service.
Individuals who wish to submit their names for consideration in the scholarship program must meet a number of eligibility requirements. Some of the requirements include possessing a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, having a valid TOEIC Listening and Reading score report that demonstrates a proficiency in English and being a Korean national that is seeking a bachelor's degree from a university located in Korea. Submitting a TOEIC Speaking and Writing score report is optional. Selected finalists will also be interviewed in English by an external scholarship committee that will be composed of professors from a number of Korean universities.
In a change from previous years, letters of recommendation are no longer required for consideration in the scholarship program.
In conjunction with the ETS Korea office, the scholarship program is being administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS), a leading provider of full-service scholarship, grant and tuition program management. To apply for a scholarship, applicants will need to create an account, fill out an application and submit all scholarship related materials through ISTS's website.
The application deadline is December 31, 2013, and applicants will be notified of their standing in January 2014.
