Beijing (September 3, 2009) —
Educational Testing Service (ETS), creators of the TOEFL® test, announced today that the largest TOEFL® administration in the history of China will occur on September 12. More than 5,900 test takers are registered for this administration.
This historic test administration reflects the rapidly growing interest of students in taking the TOEFL for study at 7,000 universities abroad. This coincides with the announcement earlier this year by the National Education Examinations Authority (NEEA) that test center capacity would increase to 200,000 seats for 2009.
For more than 45 years, the TOEFL test has been the most highly regarded academic English-language assessment in the world. It is accepted at more than 7,000 universities and colleges in more than 130 countries. Developed with input from leading universities, it is the only test that measures students’ ability to combine their four English skills to communicate in an academic environment, making it the most comprehensive assessment of English of its kind. The TOEFL test also is the largest globally deployed test and is conveniently available at more than 4,100 test centers in 165 countries worldwide.
"Within the last three years, the number of Chinese students selecting TOEFL as their English test of choice has increased 143 percent," Dr. Philip Tabbiner, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Business Development Partnerships and Global for ETS. "Chinese students have embraced TOEFL and are working diligently to improve their English skills to ensure success at the world’s leading universities."
