Taipei, Taiwan (July 14, 2011) —

At an awards ceremony today, Dr. Zoubir Yazid, Managing Director of ETS Global, announced the winners of the 2011 TOEFL® Scholarship Program. The newly created scholarship program recognizes academic excellence by TOEFL test takers in Taiwan.

ETS, the creator of the TOEFL test, honored 10 high-performing students from Taiwan, awarding US$30,000 in scholarship funding for undergraduate or graduate study in 2011. Ten US$3,000 scholarships were presented: two for study in Australia, four for study in the United States, one for study in the U.K., one for study in Canada, and two for study in any other location.

"It is an honor to be in Taipei to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the 2011 TOEFL Scholarship Winners," commented Yazid. "Promoting equity and excellence in education is an integral part of ETS's mission. We are so pleased to host the TOEFL Scholarship Program to assist Taiwanese students in achieving their educational and professional goals."

More than 270 applications were received for consideration this year. Each winner demonstrated an outstanding ability to communicate in English, strong academic performance, participation in extra-curricular activities, such as community service, and effective leadership skills.

The ETS Scholarship and Recognition Programs (SRP) group, which annually administers millions of dollars in new and renewable awards in the United States and abroad, was involved in the coordination of the TOEFL Scholarship Program in Taiwan.
