Taipei, Taiwan (June 26, 2013) —
For the third consecutive year, Educational Testing Service (ETS) presented TOEFL® Scholarships to exceptional students from Taiwan. The TOEFL Scholarship Program acknowledges the academic excellence of exemplary TOEFL test takers in Taiwan by awarding US$42,000 in scholarships.
Jennifer Brown, Executive Director of the TOEFL program traveled to Taipei to present the 14 Taiwanese students with US$3,000 scholarships to help them continue their education at the undergraduate or graduate school level. The TOEFL Scholarships can be used at any of the more than 8,500 institutions around the world that accept the TOEFL test.
"Having the chance to personally award the 2013 TOEFL Scholarships to the winners in Taiwan is such an honor," commented Brown. "Advancing equity and opportunity for educational advancement is a hallmark of ETS's mission. We are so pleased to see the TOEFL Scholarship Program thrive in Taiwan."
Selected from a competitive pool of applications, each applicant was evaluated based on his or her English-communication skills, academic record, leadership skills and extracurricular activities. This year, an 18 percent increase was recorded in the number of applications received compared to last year. Since 2011, the TOEFL Program has awarded US$112,000 to Taiwanese students to further support undergraduate or graduate studies.
The ETS Scholarship & Recognition Program group, which annually administers millions of dollars in new and renewable awards in the United States and abroad, was involved in the coordination of the TOEFL Scholarship Program in Taiwan.
