ETS Announces the Winners of the 4th Annual Academic Scholarship Program in Korea

Thirty students awarded a total of US$120,000 to support their education goals

At an award ceremony yesterday in Seoul, Managing Director of Educational Testing Service (ETS) Global BV, Zoubir Yazid, announced the winners of the 2011 ETS Scholarship Program in Korea. Established in 2008, the ETS Scholarship Program recognizes academic excellence by Korean test takers of the TOEIC® and TOEFL® tests.

ETS, creator of the TOEIC and TOEFL tests, honored 30 high-performing Korean students with awards totaling approximately US$120,000. The funding will be used for the 2012 academic year. Scholarship winners were selected through a rigorous application and screening process carried out by an external committee of professors from higher education institutions across Korea. In the first phase of the program, the scholarship committee reviewed student application materials including transcripts, letters of recommendation and essays. The finalists were then screened during a two-day workshop where they participated in activities that allowed them to demonstrate teamwork, creativity and leadership skills.

The ETS Scholarship and Recognition Programs (SRP) group, which annually administers millions of dollars in new and renewable awards in countries around the world, has been involved in the coordination of the ETS Scholarship Program in Korea. In addition to program consultation, SRP developed application materials and guidelines for the review of the applications.

The TOEIC tests are the most widely accepted English-language assessments for the workplace. With more than six million tests administered last year, the TOEIC tests are the global standard for assessing workplace English-language communication skills for companies, institutions and government agencies around the world. The TOEIC tests are currently used by more than 10,000 organizations in 120 countries worldwide.
