Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Awareness (STEM)

Current section: Overview

Imagine iFact: ifact: Investments in space exploration have yielded important data about the history and composition of the universe, as well as a number of technological advances that are now products we use every day.

"i3 – invest. inspire. imagine."

Sponsored by ETS and Liberty Science Center.

The i3 initiative is ETS's and Liberty Science Center's response to a disturbing trend in economics and education. Research shows there is a severe lack of highly skilled people coming out of the U.S. education system to fill positions in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The focus of the initiative is to open a dialogue among state and U.S. education officials, policymakers, parents and teachers about how we can staff critical science and technology-related jobs — essential to the nation's economic health — with educated, well-trained workers. Efforts include:

  • fostering early education in STEM disciplines.
  • promoting interest in STEM careers among minority students.
  • increasing awareness among educators and parents on what U.S. schools can do to better prepare students for jobs in these fields.
