California State University Placement Tests

Registering for the EAP
Registration for the EAP takes place as part of the 11th grade California Standards Tests (CA STAR) - there is no separate registration. The EAP is voluntary, so students in 11th grade should ask their teachers about how they can take the exam.
Registering for the EPT/ELM
Registration for the EPT and ELM is required for all students. Many campuses have online registration available, though some require mail-in registration. To find out what your campus offers, log on to its website, which you can find listed under the Test Dates/Locations tab above.
Download the EPT/ELM registration form.
Be Early, Be Thorough
CSU test centers fill up on a first-come, first-serve basis, so it is best to register as early as possible. Incomplete or late registration forms may be returned to you. In some rare cases, a walk-in registration on test day may be possible. If circumstances prevent you from registering on time, contact your test center to see if this option is available.
Important!
You don't need separate registration forms for the EPT and ELM. You can register for either, or both, on a single form. If you successfully register, you will receive a validated admission ticket one or two weeks before the test. If you do not receive an admission ticket within three days of the test date, contact your test center.
Fees
The fee for each test is $18, so if you are taking both the EPT and the ELM, the cost will be $36.
The out-of-state testing fee is $50, in addition to the testing fees.
The fee for a duplicate score report is $10. If you took the EPT and/or ELM March 15, 2008 or later you can access your scores online. The PIN you indicated on your answer sheet will be needed to access this site.
Fees must be paid by check or money order. Cash will not be accepted. All fees are non-refundable and subject to change.
Your Social Security Number
CSU campuses use your Social Security number to identify your student records. If you do not have a Social Security number, you should register for the EPT or ELM by using the temporary number assigned to you by the Admissions Office at the campus you plan to attend. You should have a Social Security number and submit it to the University by the time you enroll. International students who do not have a Social Security number should use a taxpayer identification number.
Special Arrangements
If special circumstances make it impossible for you to take the tests at the first available administration, you must plan to meet the requirement at the next scheduled opportunity. Each test administration requires a separate registration form.
If your religious convictions prevent you from taking the EPT and/or ELM on the scheduled test dates, you must request special arrangements by including a letter on official letterhead from an appropriate religious authority with your registration form.
If you have a disability and require special arrangements for taking the examinations, please be sure to contact the test center by the registration deadline. The EPT and ELM are available in Braille, large-print and audio editions.
