The raw score for each section is converted by statistical means to a number on what is called the TOEFL test scale. The total paper-based test score is reported on a scale that ranges from 310 to 677.
TWE® (Test of Written English™) Scores
The TWE score is reported on a scale of 1 to 6 and printed in a separate box on the TOEFL score report. It is not added to the TOEFL score. A score between 2 points on the scale (for example, 5.5, 3.5) can also be reported.
TSE® (Test of Spoken English™) Scores
Use the table below to interpret your score. For example, if your score is 45, the percentile rank is 54. This means you achieved a higher score than 54 percent of all people who took the test between January 2006 and December 2007.
