How do I contact Download Technical Support?

Send a description of your problem to GRETechSupport@ets.org or call 1-914-747-9075, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Eastern Time (New York). E-mails sent to the download support hotline will be answered within one business day of receipt.

To help us respond quickly and accurately to your inquiry, include the following information with your e-mail:

  • Verification that you are using Version 3.1
    • Description of problem
    • Date(s) and time(s) of day download was attempted
    • Browser type and version (e.g., Internet Explorer 5.0)
    • Computer make and model
    • Amount of memory (RAM)
    • Modem speed
    • Internet service provider
    • Windows version
    • Type of monitor
    • Printer make and model

Is Powerprep® software compatible with Mac computers?

No. Powerprep software is only IBM- or PC-compatible. Powerprep was developed in the same format as the GRE itself, which is only delivered in a PC environment.

What should I do if the download does not work the first time I try it?

Try again at a later time the same day. It could be that there were many other users downloading the software at the same time as you, which affected the download process. If your download took much longer than the estimated download times given on the Download GRE Powerprep software page, that could be a sign that there were many other concurrent users downloading at the same time.

Also, make sure that your system meets the following requirements specified to download, install, and use the software:

  • IBM-compatible computer with 486 or better processor
  • Microsoft Windows versions 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT 4.0, or XP
  • 8 megabytes of RAM
  • 20 megabytes of hard disk space
  • CD-ROM drive for installation (or Internet access for download)
  • Mouse
  • VGA Monitor — Greater than 256 colors for optimal display.

I downloaded the file successfully, but now I can't find it. What should I do?

If you followed the instructions provided, the file should be located on your Desktop.

If not, perform a search for the file on your computer. Click Start and Search and For Files and Folders. In the field provided, type in ppgre31 to find the GRE Powerprep® 3.1 file. In most cases, it would have saved to your c: drive. When the file is found, click its icon to start installing the software.

If the computer does not find the file, then download the software again. This time, make sure that you save the file to your Desktop and follow the GRE Powerprep Download Instructions provided.

General Frequently Asked Questions

Can Powerprep® be mailed to me?

The downloadable version of Powerprep software is available free to anyone who visits the GRE® website.

Registrants in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada are advised to download the free software to prepare for the computer-based GRE General Test. Individuals who do not have Internet access and would like a copy of Powerprep mailed to them should contact GRE.

The free software is sent to each individual outside the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada who registers to test more than 2 weeks in advance of his or her test date. Individuals who register less than 2 weeks in advance of their test date are advised to download the software. Typically, it takes up to 4 weeks to receive the material.

How can I order Express Delivery Service?

Express Delivery Service is available for a charge of US$20 for delivery within the United States and US$27 for delivery outside of the United States. A Powerprep® CD-ROM will be shipped to you within 7 business days.

You may request Express Delivery Service by calling ETS at 1-609-771-7670 or 1-866-473-4373 (toll free for test takers in the United States, U.S. Territories and Canada). The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 7:45 p.m. Eastern Time (New York). Have your credit card information available when you call.

Expect 2 to 3 business days for delivery in the United States and 3 to 4 business days for delivery outside of the United States. Remember, if you need to receive Powerprep immediately, you can download the software for free now.

It has been over the specified shipping time, and I have not yet received my Powerprep® CD-ROM in the mail. What should I do?
