Minnesota: Praxis Test Requirements
Important News
Beginning September 1, 2009, ETS will administer a new version of the Library Media Specialist test. This new test covers the same content as the previous test. However, scores are reported on a different scale, so requirements will vary from the previous version. All scores for the discontinued test are reportable for 10 years. Consult the table below for specific score requirements.

Background
Legislation enacted in 1985 required the Minnesota Board of Teaching to adopt examinations for assessing skills in reading, writing, and mathematics for teachers licensed under Board authority and to adopt rules for the implementation and ongoing administration of the examinations. In addition, Minnesota Statute 122A.09(e) requires the Minnesota Board of Teaching also to adopt general pedagogy and content examinations for teacher licensure. Effective September 1, 2001, all candidates applying for their first Minnesota teaching license will also be required to complete the adopted examinations in general professional knowledge and examinations in specific content fields.
Who Must Take the Tests
- For applications postmarked September 1, 2001 and thereafter, an applicant for a first-time Minnesota classroom teaching license must complete the required teacher licensure examinations in: 1) basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics; 2) professional knowledge; and 3) content/subject matter.
- For applications postmarked September 1, 2001 and thereafter, an applicant adding a licensure field to an existing Minnesota classroom teaching license must complete only the adopted content/subject matter licensure test, if any, for the added field.
- Note: School administrators, school counselors, school social workers, school nurses, school psychologists, and educational speech-language pathologists are not teachers, and therefore are not subject to teacher examination licensure requirements.
The scores you receive are maintained by ETS for ten years and are portable to other states using The Praxis Series.

Test Requirements
NOTE: The first digit in the Session/Test Code indicates the session during which the test is offered in the 2009-10 testing year. There are no session numbers for the CBT tests, which are given by appointment, as explained in How to Register for Praxis.
You may take each Computerized PPST® once per calendar month up to six times in a 12-month period. If you violate this restriction, the scores from your retest will not be reported and your test fees will not be refunded. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.
Where to Take the Tests
The computer-based tests are offered by appointment through a national network of Prometric™ Testing Centers (many Prometric Testing Centers are located inside Sylvan Learning Centers) and selected institutional sites. Visit Computer-Based Test Centers for the locations near you.
