Career and Technical Degree Equivalent Certificate Approach

General testing information for all applicants may be found in the Overview of Alabama Testing Requirements.

Visit the Educator Certification Section for information regarding this certification approach.

Individuals applying for the issuance of a Degree Equivalent Certificate in health science or a technical education program area must successfully complete the current Alabama Educator Certification Assessment Program (AECAP) requirements:

  • Pass the required Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests. The Praxis Core is not required if the individual previously passed all three components of the modified WorkKeys® assessments which were offered by ACT® for Alabama teacher certification. Scores for the WorkKeys assessments must be on file and the application for Alabama certification must be received in Educator Certification Section on or before August 31, 2022. If a valid Alabama Specialty Area Career and Technical Certificate or Professional Leadership Certificate is held, the Praxis Core is also not required.

Important: TEST CHANGES and SCORE INCREASES are effective for tests taken and applications received in the Educator Certification Section of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) on or after September 1, 2019. The score earned on the date a test was taken MAY or MAY NOT be deemed as "passing" when the test taker's application is received in the Educator Certification Section of the ALSDE. Information can be viewed in the Educator Assessment Policies.
