Delaware Test Requirements
Find your certification area below to determine which Praxis II® test(s) you need to take and see the minimum qualifying score. To learn more about a specific test, click the test title. Once you know your test(s), find out how to register for Praxis™ tests and read the Praxis test retake policy.
The Delaware Professional Standards Board and State Board of Education have not approved qualifying test scores for all certificate areas; thus, the Praxis II test is required if applicable and available.
For further information about Delaware educator certification and licensing, visit the Delaware Educator Data System (DEEDS) website.
Most tests are offered in both Session 1 and Session 2. Refer to the fees page for tests that are restricted to a particular session.
In general, unless it is specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, calculators may not be used on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).
Notes:
- In general, test codes that begin with "5" are delivered in computer format; codes that begin with "0" are delivered on paper.
- "CDT" refers to computer-delivered tests. "PDT" refers to paper-delivered tests.
Tests Required for All Licensure Areas
The State Board validated the Praxis I® Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST®) as an appropriate basic skills test for initial licensure in Delaware and established the qualifying scores shown in the table below.
If you wish to take all three computer-delivered Praxis I exams (5710, 5720, 5730) at the same time, select Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test: Combined Test (5750) when registering. Scores will be reported by individual test (5710, 5720, 5730).

Exemption Tests
Effective July 1, 1996, the Delaware State Board of Education approved the Core Battery, SAT Reasoning Test™ (SAT®) and GRE® tests as exemptions to Praxis I tests in reading, writing and mathematics. SAT scores earned after April 1, 1995, and presented for exemption must meet the score indicated due to a recentering of the SAT test.
The exemptions below are intended to provide an option for individuals who have previously taken other appropriate standardized tests. Consequently, exemption test scores should pre-date both application and employment. It is not the intent to require that other tests be taken in lieu of Praxis I tests.
The applicant is responsible for forwarding official exemption test scores to the Delaware Department of Education. If that is not possible, then the exemption cannot be allowed, and the applicant will need to meet the previously stated Praxis I score requirements.
