Delaware Test Requirements

Find your certification area below to determine which Praxis II® test(s) you need to take and see the minimum qualifying score. To learn more about a specific test, click the test title. Once you know your test(s), find out how to register for Praxis® tests and read the Praxis test retake policy.

The Delaware Professional Standards Board and State Board of Education have not approved qualifying test scores for all certificate areas; thus, the Praxis II test is required if applicable and available.

For further information about Delaware educator certification and licensing, visit the Delaware Educator Data System (DEEDS) website.

In general, unless it is specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, calculators may not be used on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).

If you test in Delaware, your score report will be sent automatically to the Delaware State Department of Education. If you test outside of Delaware, select the Delaware State Department of Education (state code 7065) as a score recipient when you register or on an additional score report request.

Tests Required for All Licensure Areas

The State Board validated the Praxis I® Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST®) and Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests as appropriate basic skills tests for initial licensure in Delaware and established the qualifying scores shown in the table below.

If you have not completed the PPST, you have through August 31, 2014 to pass all three tests. Scores will be accepted by the Delaware Department of Education provided the approved passing scores are met by that date. Passing scores for each test are:

  • PPST Reading (5710): 175
  • PPST Writing (5720): 173
  • PPST Mathematics (5730): 174

Exemption Tests

The Delaware State Board of Education approved the Core Battery, SAT Reasoning Test™ (SAT®) and GRE® tests as exemptions to the Praxis I and Praxis Core tests in reading, writing and mathematics. SAT scores earned after April 1, 1995, and presented for exemption must meet the score indicated due to a recentering of the SAT test.

The exemptions below are intended to provide an option for individuals who have previously taken other appropriate standardized tests. Consequently, exemption test scores should pre-date both application and employment. It is not the intent to require that other tests be taken in lieu of the Praxis I and Praxis Core tests.

The applicant is responsible for forwarding official exemption test scores to the Delaware Department of Education. If that is not possible, then the exemption cannot be allowed, and the applicant will need to meet the previously stated Praxis I and Praxis Core score requirements.
