Idaho Test Requirements

Find your licensure area below to determine which test you need to take and see the minimum qualifying score. To learn more about a specific test, click the test title. Once you know your test(s), find out how to register for the Praxis™ tests and read the Praxis test retake policy.

Most tests are offered in both Session 1 and Session 2. Refer to the fees page for tests that are restricted to a particular session.

In general, unless it is specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, calculators may not be used on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).

Notes:

  • In general, test codes that begin with "5" are delivered in computer format; codes that begin with "0" are delivered on paper. All tests are paper-delivered tests unless otherwise noted.
  • "CDT" refers to computer-delivered tests. "PDT" refers to paper-delivered tests.

Early Childhood Education (Birth–3)

Note: While the Education of Young Children (0021/5021) test has previously been an Idaho state requirement, it DOES NOT meet the definition of Highly Qualified status as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. In order to ensure that Early Childhood/Blended Birth to Grade 3 candidates are deemed Highly Qualified without requiring three tests, Education of Young Children (0021/5021) is no longer a requirement and is optional effective immediately. To attain Highly Qualified status, candidates must successfully pass the Special Education: Early Childhood (0691) test AND the Early Childhood: Content Knowledge (0022/5022) OR Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5031) test.

Elementary Education (Grades K–8)

Note: If an applicant completes a state-approved elementary education program through an Idaho college or university, and that applicant started the program before June 1, 2013, then the applicant does not have to obtain a single subject endorsement; however, he or she must take and pass the applicable Principles of Learning and Teaching Praxis II® test #0622/5622 or #0623/5623.

If this applicant chooses to obtain a single subject endorsement, then he or she must meet the higher education competency requirements and pass the Praxis II assessment applicable to the specific single subject endorsement.

All other candidates, including out-of-state candidates will need to have or obtain a single subject endorsement.

For information regarding single subject endorsements, visit the Idaho State Department of Education website.
