Pennsylvania Highly Qualified Status
To become highly qualified (HQ), you must:
- Hold at least a bachelor's degree
- Hold a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate (Instructional I, Instructional II, or Intern certificate but not an emergency permit)
- Demonstrate subject matter competency for the core content area you teach
In Pennsylvania, the core content areas for highly qualified status include:
- English
- Reading/Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Sciences
- Foreign Languages
- Music and Art
- Social Studies
- History
- Economics
- Geography
- Civics
- Government
