Tennessee Assessment Requirements

Find the licensure and endorsement area sought below to see which assessments may be required and the minimum qualifying scores. To learn more about a specific assessment, click the test title. Find out how to register for the Praxis® tests and read the Praxis test retake policy.

In general, unless it is specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, calculators may not be used on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).

If an assessment is taken in Tennessee, score reports are sent automatically to the Tennessee Department of Education. If assessments are taken outside of Tennessee, designate the Tennessee Department of Education (state code 8190) as a score recipient when registering or when requesting an additional score report.

Principles of Learning and Teaching

A pedagogical knowledge assessment may be required for individuals applying through an out-of-state pathway on the basis of completion of an approved out-of-state educator preparation program, as well as for occupational licensure applicants. Please review the Tennessee State Board of Education Policy 5.105: Professional Assessments for Tennessee Educators to determine the assessment requirements for the licensure and endorsement area sought.
