Abstract

This is Volume 1 of a two-volume set of statistics on GRE test takers.(The second volume, which consists of supplementary tables, is RR-9401A.) This first volume includes GRE statistics on ethnic differences in numbers and percentages of test takers, undergraduate majors and intended graduate fields of study, highest degrees planned, and undergraduate institutions attended. Based primarily on the self reports of test takers who completed the GRE background information questionnaire, the document answers many of the questions users have raised concerning the ethnic composition of GRE General Test examinees, and the ways that composition has changed over the past decade. This volume contains sets of graphs, each preceded by a short commentary in question-and-answer format. A bibliography listing some of the reports on GRE-funded minority research can be found at the end of Volume I.
