Alvin Irby is the Education Director at The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) in East Harlem. He develops, implements and manages BCNY's after-school tutoring, academic enrichment, college-prep and career planning programs for boys ages 6–21. Prior to joining BCNY, he worked as a teacher for KIPP Infinity Elementary School and the NYC Department of Education. In addition to his classroom experience as an elementary school teacher, he has written extensively about culturally-relevant approaches to educating students of color.
Irby earned a B.A. in Sociology from Grinnell College, and an M.S. in Education from Bank Street College of Education.
