General Information

How do I contact GRE Services?
GRE Services can be reached via email at gre-info@ets.org. In addition, a special toll-free telephone number (400-120-0175) has been established for test takers in China who prefer to call. Representatives will be available from 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m., New York time, Monday through Friday.
Why can't I keep my scores from the October 23, 2010, administration?
ETS made the difficult decision to cancel the scores of all individuals who took the General Test on October 23, 2010, in China because a previously used edition of the test was mistakenly administered. This action was taken in order to protect the validity of GRE scores.
What are my options?

You have a choice of three options:

  1. take a make-up test on November 20, 2010
  2. transfer to the June 11, 2011, test administration
  3. receive a full refund of your test fee
How do I let ETS know which option I am choosing?
If you would like to take the make-up administration on November 20, 2010, you have already been rescheduled to that test administration and you do not need to contact ETS. You will need to bring a copy of your October 23, 2010, admission ticket and the email you received to the test administration, along with all necessary identification. If you no longer have a copy of your October 23, 2010, admission ticket, you can print a copy of your admission ticket at www.ets.org/mygre.
If you would like to transfer to the June 11, 2011, test administration or receive a full refund, you must notify GRE Services by November 11, 2010, and we will process your request.
I do not want to retest. What should I do?
If you do not want to retest, you can request a full refund of your GRE General Test fee by contacting GRE Services by November 11, 2010. ETS is entrusting NEEA (National Education Examinations Authority) to provide test fee refunds, on behalf of ETS, in local currency in the exact amount originally paid. After you contact GRE Services, you will receive direct communications from ETS with further instructions about disbursement of funds. Note that if you elect to receive a refund, you will not be able to test at the November 20, 2010, make-up administration and no scores will be reported for the General Test that you took on October 23, 2010.
What is the amount of the full refund?
If you elect to receive a refund, the refund will be in local currency in the exact amount you originally paid. After you contact GRE Services, you will receive direct communications from ETS with further instructions about disbursement of funds. Refunds will be available by the end of November 2010.
What are you doing to compensate students who have travel expenses?
Reimbursement will be provided to test takers for reasonable and documented expenses associated with traveling to the October 23, 2010, test administration. ETS is entrusting NEEA to provide reimbursements, on behalf of ETS, in local currency. To request reimbursement, contact GRE Services by November 23, 2010. After you contact GRE Services, you will receive direct communications from ETS with further instructions about disbursement of funds.
Were all of the individuals who tested at the October 23, 2010, test administration affected?
No. Only students who tested in China on October 23, 2010, were affected.

Questions about the November 2010 Make-up Administration

Why doesn't my admission ticket have the date of the make-up administration (November 20, 2010) on it?
Since this is a make-up administration for the October 23, 2010, GRE General Test administration, the admission ticket reflects the original test date.
Will my October 23, 2010 admission ticket reflect any test center changes that are made?
Yes. If you request a test center change for the November 20, 2010, make-up administration, your October 23, 2010, admission ticket will reflect those changes. You must submit your request for a test center change to GRE Services by November 10, 2010. Requests received after November 10, 2010, will not be able to be accommodated.

Questions about the June 11, 2011, Administration

If I transfer to the June 11, 2011, administration, do I have to take the Analytical Writing section again?
No. You will not need to retake the Analytical Writing section since that administration was not affected. You will only need to retake the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections of the GRE General Test at the June 11, 2011, test administration.
If I already registered for the June 11, 2011, test administration, can I cancel my test?
Yes. You can cancel your June 11, 2011, test. If you cancel your computer-based Analytical Writing session no later than three full days before your test date, you will receive a refund equivalent to half of the original test fee. If you cancel your paper-based Verbal and Quantitative session no later than three full days before your test date, you will receive a $35 refund. Refunds are issued within six to eight weeks after the canceled test date and will be in U.S. dollars.
I already registered to take the June 11, 2011, test. How will this be handled?

You have a number of options:

  1. You can keep your June 11, 2011, appointment and also retake the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections of the test at the November 20, 2010, make-up administration. This means that you will have two sets of GRE General Test scores (one set from October 23, 2010, and one set from June 11, 2011) on your score report.
  2. You can keep your June 11, 2011, appointment and request a full refund of your October 23, 2010, GRE General Test fee. This means that you will have one set of GRE General Test scores from June 11, 2011, on your score report, and you will have to take the Analytical Writing section again (if you have not already done so).
  3. You can cancel your June 11, 2011, appointment and transfer your October 23, 2010, make-up test to June 11, 2011. This means that you will have one set of GRE General Test scores from June 11, 2011, on your score report, you will receive a partial refund per the GRE program policy, and you will not have to take the Analytical Writing section again.
  4. You can cancel your June 11, 2011, appointment and take the October 23, 2010, make-up test on November 20, 2010. This means that you will have one set of GRE General Test scores from October 23, 2010, on your score report, you will receive a partial refund per the GRE program policy, and you will not have to take the Analytical Writing section again.

Score Reporting

When will my scores from the November 20, 2010, make-up administration be available?
Score reports from the November 20, 2010, make-up administration will be sent to institutions and test takers by December 10, 2010. Scores will be available in Scores by Phone and on View Scores Online on December 10, 2010. The reporting time is being accelerated due to these special circumstances. The December 10, 2010, score reporting date for the make-up administration is approximately one week later than the original reporting date of December 3, 2010, for the October 23, 2010, administration.
What test date will appear on my GRE score report?
The test date that will appear on your score report is October 23, 2010, because the November 20, 2010, administration is a make-up test for the October 23, 2010, test date.
I need my scores by December 3, 2010 (the original reporting date for the October administration). What should I do?
The reporting time is being accelerated due to these special circumstances. The December 10, 2010, score reporting date for the make-up administration is approximately one week later than the original reporting date of December 3, 2010, for the October 23, 2010, administration.
If you need to send scores to an institution for an application deadline in early December 2010, you are advised to forward a copy of the email message you receive from ETS directly to the graduate or business programs to which you are applying.
Can you contact the institution and let them know that my scores will be delayed?
We are notifying institutions about the November 20, 2010, make-up administration and that scores will be reported by December 10, 2010, approximately one week later than the original reporting date of December 3, 2010, for the October 23, 2010, administration.
If you need to send scores to an institution for an application deadline in early December 2010, you are advised to forward a copy of the email message you receive from ETS directly to the graduate or business programs to which you are applying.
