New Educator Assessment Developments

Missouri Pre-Service Assessment — ETS was recently awarded a contract by the Missouri Department of Education to provide a pre-service, performance-based assessment to teacher candidates, school leaders, librarians and guidance counselors. Development work on these new assessments has already begun. The pilot is underway for the pre-service teacher assessment, which ETS will be launching in the fall of 2014. For more information, visit the website at http://mega.ets.org/.

Praxis™ Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) — ETS is also developing a Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers that can be used by states across the country. This assessment will be aligned with InTASC Standards and Common Core Standards, and have both formative and summative tasks. The assessment, including the submission of feedback from observations, video and work samples/artifacts will be completely online and allow for reflective dialogue and professional interactions between candidates and their university and cooperating instructors.

The Praxis program is working with states in the development of task requirements and guiding prompts and rubrics, and will pilot the program in January of 2014. A full launch is anticipated in 2014.

Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators® (GACE®)— ETS was chosen to develop new GACE teacher certification assessments. Each assessment is aligned with state and national standards for educator preparation and with Georgia state standards for the P–12 student curriculum — the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). Registration for the new program opened on August 19, 2013, and the first administration will occur on October 5, 2013. For more information, please visit www.gace.ets.org.
