First item writing workshop held for the TOEFL® Speaking Section.
The TOEFL® programme conducted a professional development workshop in Sydney on 12 May for English-language professionals in Australia with the goal of training new test item writers for the TOEFL iBT® Speaking section. Led by ETS Assessment Specialist Emilie Pooler, the seminar focused on how TOEFL iBT test items are designed, reviewed, pilot tested, and finally included in a test. A second workshop will be held in September for training on writing items for the TOEFL Writing section.
Pooler reported that the teachers found the workshop to be valuable. "The workshop participants appreciated the opportunity to learn about the TOEFL iBT test in detail, and were extremely interested in best practices in assessment," she said. "Not only did they learn how to write test questions for a large-scale assessment, but they also spent time reflecting on how to apply these assessment principles in their own classrooms."
If you are interested in the training session for the TOEFL Writing section, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for registration details. Compensation will be provided for any usable material produced during the training session.
