New Payment Options Available to TOEFL Test Takers.

TOEFL iBT test fees paid online by credit card can now be paid in select local currencies in addition to U.S. dollars. Test takers can now pay in euros (EUR), Indian rupees (INR), Japanese yen (JPY), or South Korean won (KRW), using a VISA® or MasterCard® credit or debit card through the TOEFL online registration system.

TOEFL Scholarships Awarded in Five Countries.

TOEFL scholarships were awarded to 95 students at ceremonies in China, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan in July. Established in 2009, the ETS scholarship program recognizes academic excellence of TOEFL test takers. Scholarships were awarded to high-performing students studying in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, U.K., and the United States during the scholarship ceremonies in July. These students were rated based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, essay responses and TOEFL scores.

Ecuador to Use the TOEFL Test to Measure Abilities of English Teachers.

In an effort to improve English language learning opportunities for all students, Ecuador's Ministry of Education announced that the TOEFL test will measure the abilities of public teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

"Providing all students with the opportunity to learn English is a priority for the Ministry of Education," commented Gloria Vidal, Ecuador's Minister of Education. "The TOEFL test offers a reliable measure to diagnose the current knowledge of English of Ecuador's EFL public teachers. The test will provide valuable information that will allow us to design professional development opportunities for teachers to attain the necessary level of proficiency to educate our children. We look forward to working collaboratively with all teachers to help them reach the Ministry's English-language standards."

Register for a TOEFL Professional Development Workshop.

The TOEFL program is offering Propell® workshops across seven countries in the upcoming months. Countries include Finland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Norway, and Poland. The Propell workshop is a one-day professional development program designed to help English-language teachers meet the challenges of teaching English as a second language to students. The workshop uses examples from the TOEFL iBT Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing test sections. It provides instructional techniques and strategies for using the integrated-skills approach to teaching language and for preparing students for success.

Inside the TOEFL Test is a series of five videos providing an in-depth review of the Writing and Speaking sections of the TOEFL iBT test. Our video for this month features the independent speaking questions. This video focuses on how the questions are structured and what they're asking, how to approach the questions, and how responses are scored.
