Committee Review

An external review committee selected by ETS's Scholarship & Recognition Programs (SRP) enhances the credibility of your scholarship program by removing any hint of favoritism or impropriety. External reviewers also remove one very time-consuming administrative function from the "to-do" lists of scholarship program managers.

Committee Review Checklist

  • Independent review, which enhances objectivity and credibility
  • A pool of experienced professionals
  • Expertise to fit your program design
  • Orientation conducted by SRP
  • Review of each application by two members using a four-point scale
  • Proprietary software that identifies score discrepancies

Expertise for Every Program

Every scholarship program is unique. That's why SRP has built relationships with more than 250 professional scholarship application reviewers. These experienced academics have specific major study expertise and strong application evaluation experience.

Specific program criteria determine the members of your panel. We have educators who are skilled at identifying the most academically successful students, and professionals who can evaluate applications on the basis of community service or other criteria.

The application review process begins with an orientation session, conducted by SRP. There, SRP staff review program objectives and scholarship criteria. You and other members of your organization join in this meeting so that committee members are equipped with specific decision-making criteria and understand the broad objectives of the program.

Selecting the Best and the Brightest

Committee members conduct an in-depth evaluation of each application, including:

  • academic records
  • school and community service
  • extracurricular activities
  • leadership
  • writing samples

At least two members of the committee review each application. They score each application, using a four-point scale. All scores are entered into a software program. When two reviewers' scores are significantly different, a third committee member reviews those applications and adjusts the score.
