- How does the Career Development training program work?
The WorkFORCE® Program for Career Development helps organizations evaluate and develop behaviors candidates need most to train and develop for their role. It consists of two parts — an assessment and a training curriculum.
The web-based assessment measures six behavioral competencies and 13 underlying behavioral attributes that relate to the likelihood of success in the workplace. It provides you with individualized interpretative statements for each test taker’s behavioral competencies and attributes, offering extensive descriptions of each skill and why the skill is important, as well as actionable tips to help foster growth.
The companion training curriculum includes eight online interactive modules that can either be self-directed or instructor-led. When the assessment is used in conjunction with our companion training curriculum, you can design training programs customized to the development needs of your employees and job seekers. Participants can be instructed to take all modules or only the modules that apply to their developmental needs.
- How long is the Career Development training program?
The assessment takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete.
The companion training curriculum includes eight interactive online modules, each taking 25–30 minutes to complete. The program is self-paced or instructor-led.
- What if people are uncomfortable with the forced-choice format of the assessment?
Test takers might be uncomfortable when faced with a question with two choices that feel like neither option accurately describes them. However, it's important to remember that they're not actually admitting to either of these behaviors. They're simply picking the one that is more like them or conversely not picking the one that's least like them. As they continue choosing from each pair of answers, the algorithm behind the assessment zeroes in on their true personality and behavioral traits, so no one answer will determine their score.
- How did you determine what skills to measure?
The assessment is based on the five-factor model of personality traits, and five broad factors including:
- emotional stability
- openness to experience
There is strong theoretical and empirical support for their importance in predicting workplace outcomes, including a recent series of analyses summarized by Drasgow et al. (2012). There are 21 lower-order facets, 13–15 of which work well for most business and organizational applications.
- What instructional tools are used in the program?
- The score report provides individualized interpretative statements for each behavioral competency and attribute, offering extensive descriptions of each skill and why the skill is important, as well as actionable tips to help further enhance the skills in these areas.
- The assessment-based companion training curriculum includes eight online modules featuring relatable and relevant content delivered through multiple learning techniques, such as interactive activities and videos. They also include pre- and post-work activities to encourage skill development outside of the module.
- The program is accompanied by a highly informative, comprehensive instructor guide that includes options for blended learning settings such as open-ended scenarios, role-playing and discussion questions.
- How does your program differ from other training programs?
Our assessment is powered by the ETS FACETS™ engine, which is specifically designed to adaptively select from statements using the response to one question to tailor the next. This results in a shorter assessment, as fewer questions are needed to reach a high level of precision. This innovative forced-choice format is more resistant to faking than a single-statement format. Thus, it gives you a more complete and objective picture of your candidates. It can also be customized by job types and by country, enabling you to more effectively screen candidates for a particular position.
Our training curriculum provides clear developmental direction tied to the six behavioral competencies that are predictive of workplace success. It uses a variety of engaging multimedia content and activities featuring relevant real-world content.
Participants can be instructed to take all modules or only the modules that apply to their developmental needs.

- What will my score be used for?
Organizations use the WorkFORCE Program for Career Development as part of their talent management process to help identify the skills individuals need to succeed in the workplace. The easy-to-read Individual Profile score report contains a tailored, practical action plan for you and your organization, to help you understand and address key development areas.
- Will I get my scores after the test?
Scores are shared at the discretion of the organization administering the assessment. Work with your test administrator for guidance on the next steps.
- What if I don’t like either of the forced-choice statements provided in the assessment?
The forced-choice format presents a pair of statements that refer to how you might typically think, feel and act. However, you may feel you cannot relate to either of the pair of statements presented to you on the screen. Read each of the two statements carefully and decide the extent to which it may describe you. Then, choose the statement that is more like you. Neither statement may be completely accurate, but please select the one that is closer to how you think, feel or behave. As you continue choosing from each pair of answers, the algorithm behind the assessment zeroes in on your true personality and behavioral traits, so no one answer will determine your score.
- Can I prepare for the assessment?
No. The only preparation we recommend is ensuring that your hardware meets the technical specifications required to complete the test, which can be found in the Examinee Handbook that you will receive in your registration confirmation email.
- Can I retest?
No. Once you are issued a Registration ID and Access Code, you may only take the test once.
