Jonathan Steinberg

Jonathan Steinberg joined ETS in 2005 and serves as a manager of data analysis & computational research in the Research & Development division at ETS. Previously, he spent five years at Young & Rubicam Advertising. He earned his B.A. in statistics from the University of Rochester in 1999 and his M.A. in statistics from Columbia University in 2003.

He contributes to teacher licensure research initiatives regarding the Praxis® program. He helped develop and validate the Reading Inventory and Student Evaluation Form and global, integrated, scenario-based assessments (GISA) as part of the Reading for Understanding grant, funded by the Institute for Education Sciences (IES). From 2017 to 2022, he was involved in grant work first through the National Science Foundation (NSF) and more recently with IES related to assessments of collaborative problem-solving.

Previously, Steinberg provided data analysis support for a mathematics professional development grant with Tennessee State University and performed factor analyses of large-scale state-based assessments and noncognitive assessments for secondary school and higher education students. He has presented and contributed to many published articles and conference presentations. He manages an internal research project data repository and the process for data requests to ETS by external researchers. He is active in the Northeastern Educational Research Association (president-elect) and the American Educational Research Association (past Division D communications chair).
