Law Schools: Don't take our word for it. Why the GRE® test is the best at home test.

May 11, 2020

At this challenging time, ETS is working hard to help applicants and law schools stay on track. Our newest innovation is the GRE® General Test at home, which more than 35,000 prospective applicants have already registered to take over the next few weeks.

We're proud of this offering, not only because we are the first mover within our industry — managing to wholly change our delivery model in just six weeks — but also because our offering is the most complete at home law school admissions test on the market today. Check out our chart that compares the GRE General Test at home to the LSAT®–Flex. Of course, you don't need to take our word for it — access articles on Above the Law®, Law.com®, Law360.com and Inside Higher Ed® to judge for yourself.

I encourage you to learn more about the at home test at www.ets.org/gre/cv-update, where you can sign up for an upcoming webinar and download graphics to post to your admissions web pages.

Accepting the GRE General Test scores can help your law school:

  • expand and diversify your applicant pool by providing access to 500,000+ individuals worldwide with broader interests and backgrounds, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields
  • measure the critical skills important for success in law school; for example, GRE Analytical Writing scores and actual writing samples provide evidence of a test taker's ability to analyze issues and arguments and write persuasively
  • increase access through year-round testing opportunities and industry-leading accommodations for people with disabilities and health-related needs

To achieve these goals, the GRE Program has outlined suggested steps that may help law schools show due diligence in how they are using GRE General Test scores to meet the Standard 503 of the American Bar Association®, which requires a valid and reliable test for admissions.

The GRE General Test at home is one of many ways we offer support to law schools and your prospective candidates.

Support for Law Schools

  • Recruitment support
    • Prospect search tools including the GRE® Search Service, an online database with information about a half million individuals from around the world who have recently taken or plan to take a GRE® test. • A complimentary webinar that shares promising practices around how to cost-effectively target prospective applicants and keep them engaged throughout the process. If you can't make the live event, you can still register to receive a link to the content afterward.
    • Free event promotion to inform prospects about your online information sessions and recruitment events through our official GRE General Test communities on Facebook®, Weibo and WeChat, which have more than 1.4 million followers combined.
