Fee Reduction Program

A GRE Fee Reduction Voucher may be used for one GRE General Test and/or one GRE Subject Test. Individuals who receive a GRE Fee Reduction voucher will pay $100 to register for the GRE General Test and/or 50% of the regular test fee for a GRE Subject Test (i.e., $75). Those registering for the General Test will also receive free access to the following GRE test prep materials, a $100 value:

  • POWERPREP PLUS® Online Practice Test 1 ($40 value)
  • POWERPREP PLUS® Online Practice Test 2 ($40 value)
  • ScoreItNow!™ Online Writing Practice ($20 value)

General Test vouchers issued prior to November 1, 2022, will continue to allow the voucher user to pay 50% of the General Test fee. If you have an unused General Test voucher that was issued prior to November 1, 2022, contact GRE Services at 1-609-771-7670 when you are ready to register for the test and they will adjust the test fee.

Who is eligible?

ETS provides the GRE Fee Reduction Program for individuals who can demonstrate financial need, for those who are unemployed and receiving unemployment compensation, and for national programs that work with underrepresented groups.

ETS offers GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers to U.S. citizens or resident aliens who are college seniors or unenrolled college graduates who meet eligibility requirements and are planning to take a GRE test in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands.

College seniors must be:

  • receiving financial aid through an undergraduate college in the United States, U.S. Territories or Puerto Rico, and
  • a dependent, who has a FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) that shows a parental contribution of not more than $2,700 for the senior year, or
  • self-supporting and have a SAR that shows a contribution of not more than $3,200 for the senior year.

Unenrolled college graduates must:

  • have applied for financial aid, and
  • have a SAR that shows a self-supporting status and a contribution of not more than $3,200.

ETS offers a limited number of GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers to individuals who can confirm that they are unemployed and receiving unemployment compensation and are planning to take a GRE test in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • a United States citizen or resident alien and 18 years or age or older
  • currently unemployed and have become unemployed within the past 6 months
  • able to submit a copy of an Unemployment Benefits Statement from the past 90 days as proof of unemployment

How do I apply?

If you’re applying for a GRE Fee Reduction Voucher based on financial need or because you’re unemployed, complete the GRE Fee Reduction Request form (PDF) and follow the instructions on the form regarding the submission of materials to ETS. Voucher numbers are sent to recipients via email within 2 weeks of ETS approval of the request.

If you’re a student member of one of the organizations that receives GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers from ETS, consult your program coordinator in the organization to receive a GRE Fee Reduction Voucher.

What if I need to retest?

Test takers who would like to retest can apply for another GRE Fee Reduction Voucher by completing and submitting the GRE Fee Reduction Request Form (PDF) to ETS. Voucher numbers are sent to recipients via email within 2 weeks of ETS approval of the request.

If you received a GRE Fee Reduction Voucher from an organization that receives vouchers from ETS, consult your program coordinator in the organization to receive a GRE Fee Reduction Voucher to retest.

 

1 Test and test-related fees are inclusive of any sales, use, value-added or similar taxes. In jurisdictions where the customer is required to account for any local taxes due, the price remitted to ETS excludes those taxes. In those circumstances, it is the sole responsibility of the customer to pay those taxes to the local tax authority. ETS is not responsible or liable for collecting and remitting those taxes on the customer's behalf.

In Australia, Canada, Colombia, Nigeria, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, United States and Vietnam, test and test-related fees are exclusive of any sales, use, value-added or similar taxes and will be added to the order when it is placed.
