Beijing, China (December 14, 2012) —

World-renowned English language learning experts and business executives from China and the United States are convening today to discuss methods of improving English-language proficiency in the worldwide business environment  and strengthening China's workforce development.

Educational Testing Service (ETS) and its Country Master Distributor, ATA Testing Authority (Beijing) Ltd., are commemorating the TOEIC® program's 10th anniversary in China during ATA's 7th International Conference on Testing Methodologies and Technologies. In addition, ETS is hosting an anniversary banquet following the conference where guests will celebrate the history of the TOEIC program. Both events are being held at the Beijing International Hotel.

"English instruction in China has been increasing, especially since China gained membership in the World Trade Organization, and ETS is proud of the contributions that we have made to help advance the field of English language learning here over the last 10 years," says David Hunt, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ETS's Global division.

"Today, with English frequently being the international business language used by people around the world to communicate with each other, this conference brings together workforce recruiters and education experts for an exchange of ideas and discussion around helping organizations to find the best-qualified people with the English communication skills needed to succeed," Hunt adds.

With almost two billion English-language speakers around the world and nearly 350 million English learners in China, conference topics will examine the application of leading testing methodologies and technologies in talent selection; five trends in corporations' talent selection in China from 2012 to 2013; and communication development to enable Chinese workers to better compete in the global business environment.

Walter Wang, President of ATA Testing Authority says, "With acceleration of the globalization advancement, the competition for talents intensifies, especially the capture of high-level talents with international vision and communication skills, which is probably why TOEIC has been more widely regarded as the workplace English standard in China. Since its introduction to China, TOEIC has been adopted by hundreds of enterprises and institutions in China, including many well-known multinational enterprises and large state-owned enterprises."

The TOEIC test was first introduced in mainland China on November 11, 2002, by The Occupational Skill and Testing Authority (OSTA) of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China. In March 2009, ATA was appointed Country Master Distributor for ETS's TOEIC program in China, resulting in rapid market growth. This year alone saw more than 150 new clients. Today, the TOEIC tests are used by hundreds of organizations and companies in China, including Bank of China and China Southern Airlines, making it China's standard for workplace English-language assessment.

Hunt notes that in addition to celebrating the TOEIC program's history in China, it is important to acknowledge ETS's partnership with ATA. "Their efforts to recruit new clients and strengthen relationships with existing ones have helped advance recognition of the TOEIC brand as a reliable measure of English-language proficiency and a tool for global organizations seeking to recruit workers who can effectively represent their global interests to customers and clients."
