Receiving ETS® Personal Potential Index (ETS® PPI) Evaluation Reports via Scorelink® Internet Delivery Service

Institutional recipients can receive ETS® Personal Potential Index (ETS® PPI) Evaluation Reports electronically via the Scorelink® Internet Delivery Service. The Scorelink service is the same electronic service used to deliver GRE® revised General Test and GRE® Subject Test scores. Because the ETS PPI reports contain graphs as well as text fields, the reports cannot be sent in a standard data file. Reports are sent as PDFs and as XML files, for institutional users who are interested in parsing the ETS PPI data.

How the ETS PPI Scorelink Internet Delivery Service Works

Instructions for Current GRE Scorelink Users

  1. Notify ETS via email at gre.esr@ets.org that you are interested in receiving ETS PPI Evaluation Reports via the Scorelink service and would like to receive sample ETS PPI data files.
    • ETS will email you a sample ETS PPI control file, PDF file and XML file.
  2. Once you have examined the files and determined whether they will work with your computer's system, send an email to gre.esr@ets.org stating that you would like to receive ETS PPI Evaluation Reports via Scorelink.
    • In the subject line of the email enter your institution's name and four-digit GRE code number.
    • In the body of the email include:
      • your request to receive ETS PPI reports via the Scorelink service
      • whether you will be using the same encryption key that you use for GRE score reporting purposes
      • whether ETS should use the same email address or group email address for report delivery and the same email contacts we have on file for GRE score reporting purposes (If different, provide the new information.)
  3. Within two weeks, ETS will send you ETS PPI test files via Scorelink that you can use to test your system.
    • Use these test files to make sure your system can receive the ETS PPI Evaluation Report PDFs and/or XML files.
  4. Notify ETS via email at gre.esr@ets.org that the ETS PPI test file download was successful. You will then begin receiving your ETS PPI Evaluation Reports via Scorelink. Reports will be sent in both PDF and XML file formats electronically twice per week. You can use either or both types of files, as necessary. Note that you will not be enrolled in the ETS PPI Scorelink service until you have completed your testing and informed ETS Electronic Score Reporting that you are ready to receive reports through the Scorelink service. Paper reports will be sent to you until that time.

Instructions for New Scorelink Customers

  1. Notify ETS via email at gre.esr@ets.org that you are interested in receiving ETS PPI Evaluation Reports via the Scorelink service and would like to receive sample ETS PPI data files.
    • ETS will email you a current PGP guide and a sample ETS PPI control file, PDF file and XML file.
  2. Obtain PGP encryption software.
    • ETS PPI Scorelink files are sent encrypted via the Internet. You will need to have encryption software and you will need to submit a PGP encryption key to ETS.
    • If you do not have PGP software, you will need to purchase the encryption/decryption software. PGP has come out with a 9.10 version of the Email Desktop, which will meet the needs of the Scorelink service. You can purchase the software at www.pgp.com. The 9.10 key must meet the following specifications — Type: RSA; Size: 1024; Expiration: Never; Ciper: IDEA; HASH: Default. The button for access to this screen is labeled "Advanced."
  3. Once you have examined the files and determined whether they will work with your computer system and you have obtained the PGP encryption software, send an email to gre.esr@ets.org stating you would like to receive ETS PPI Evaluation Reports via Scorelink.
    • Send the RSA 1024-length encryption key from your PGP encryption software as an ASCII attachment in the email.
    • In the subject line of the email, enter your institution's name and four-digit GRE or ETS PPI code number.
    • In the body of the email, indicate that you would like to receive ETS PPI reports via the Scorelink service, and include the group or individual email address for report delivery and the names, telephone numbers and email addresses of the primary and secondary contacts. (The encryption software with the encryption key will need to be accessed by the email recipients.)
  4. Within two weeks, ETS will send you ETS PPI test files via Scorelink that you can use to test your system.
    • Use these test files to make sure your system can receive the ETS PPI Evaluation Report PDFs and/or XML files.
  5. Notify ETS via email at gre.esr@ets.org that the ETS PPI test file download was successful. You will then begin receiving ETS PPI Evaluation Reports via the Scorelink service. Reports will be sent in both PDF and XML file formats electronically twice per week. You can use either or both types of files, as necessary. Paper reports will be sent to you until that time.

How the ETS PPI Scorelink Internet Delivery Service Works

  • Electronic ETS PPI Evaluation Reports will be sent twice a week via Scorelink.
  • The evaluation report recipient will receive an email with a link to an encrypted ETS PPI file.
  • The evaluation report recipient will decrypt the ETS PPI file with their PGP key and unzip the file.
  • The unzipped file will include a control file that contains, for each ETS PPI Evaluation Report included in the transmission, the file (PDF) name, report ID and the following candidate information:
    • first and last name
    • date of birth
    • last four digits of Social Security number
    • email address
    • department name and four-digit department code
    • address 1 and 2, city, state, zip code and country
    • gender
  • The unzipped file also will include one PDF and one XML file for each five-page ETS PPI Evaluation Report sent in the transmission.
  • The PDF naming convention will be:

    ETSPPI_report ID_candidate last name_candidate first name_YYYYMMDD.pdf

  • The XML naming convention will be:

    ETSPPI_report ID_candidate last name_candidate first name_YYYYMMDD.xml

(Note: For both file types, "YYYYMMDD" is the date the report is created at ETS.)
