Alabama Other Certification Approaches

Choose a certification approach from the list below to obtain additional information and to determine the required Praxis® assessments.

Additional Teaching Field /Certification Based on Test (CBT) Approach

This is an approach for an individual who holds a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in a teaching field and is seeking additional Alabama professional certification in certain teaching fields.

Licensure Approaches

This is an approach to the Alabama Professional Educator Certificate for an individual who is either:

  • certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)
  • certified as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) Accredited School Counseling Program

This is an approach to the Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in school counseling for an individual who has completed a master's degree level CACREP-accredited school counseling program .

Foreign Credentials

This is an approach to the Alabama Professional Educator Certificate for an individual who has completed an educator preparation program, in a teaching field, in another country.

Career and Technical Certificate to Professional Educator Certificate

This is an approach is for an individual who holds a valid Alabama Career and Technical Certificate in health science or a technical education program area and is seeking Alabama professional certification in health science or a technical education program area.

Certificate Reinstatement

This is an approach for an individual seeking reinstatement of a Professional Educator Certificate or Professional Leadership Certificate.

Early Childhood Development Approach

This is an approach to the Early Childhood Development Certificate, for birth through age four, for an individual who has completed at least a bachelor’s level NAEYC accredited program in child development.

No Praxis Subject Assessment Requirements

These approaches do not require Praxis Subject Assessments (content tests).
