General testing information for all applicants may be found in the Overview of Alabama Testing Requirements.
Visit the Educator Certification Section for information regarding this certification approach.
Individuals applying for the issuance of the Professional Educator Certificate in a teaching field based on a degree that was earned at a university in another country must successfully complete the current Alabama Educator Certification Assessment Program (AECAP) requirements as indicated in the charts below.
- Pass the required Praxis® Subject Assessments (content tests) as indicated in the charts below; and
- Pass the required Praxis® Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) test, for certification in a teaching field, as indicated in the charts below. The PLT is not required if the individual holds a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate or Professional Leadership Certificate.
Individuals who choose to test before receiving a letter of eligibility from the Educator Certification Section of the ALSDE do so at their own risk.
Important: TEST CHANGES and SCORE INCREASES are effective for tests taken and applications received in the Educator Certification Section of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) on or after September 1, 2020. The score earned on the date a test was taken MAY or MAY NOT be deemed as "passing" when the test taker's application is received in the Educator Certification Section of the ALSDE. Information can be viewed in the Educator Assessment Policies.
