American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Test Requirements

Find your certification area below to determine which test(s) you need to take. For test prep materials, click the test title. Once you know which tests you should take, schedule your test.

Unless it’s specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, you can’t use a calculator on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).

Audiology Certification

Note: All test takers are encouraged to take the Praxis Audiology (5343) test. The required score for ASHA and the state boards of examiners on the new scale (100–200) is 162. It is recommended that students take the exam during the final year. The exam is outcome based and depends on the student being able to engage in clinical decision-making.

Speech-Language Pathology Certification

Note: The Praxis Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) test scores are reported on a 100–200 score scale in one-point increments. The test code for the Praxis Speech-Language Pathology test is 5331. The required score for ASHA and the state boards of examiners is 162.

ASHA will continue to accept a passing score on the Praxis test (both the 0330/5330 and the 5331 test codes) as long as it was achieved within 5 years of the date the application for certification is received by ASHA.
