Overview of Idaho Testing Requirements
The Idaho State Department of Education (SDE) cannot receive score reports electronically at this time.
When applying for certification/endorsement, you must download and print your score reports, and mail or fax them to the Idaho SDE along with your completed application packet. (Do not send score reports via email.)
ETS discontinued paper-delivered testing; however, tests will be available in a paper-delivered format as required for ADA accommodations. All scores for previously administered paper-delivered tests are reportable for 10 years from the date the test was taken. The computer-based scores are also reportable for 10 years from the date the test was taken.
How to qualify for certification/endorsement
For initial certification in Idaho, all candidates must:
- Earn an appropriate bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
- Complete the minimum requirements in an Idaho state-approved educator preparation program or an Idaho state-approved non-traditional educator preparation program.
- Complete a background investigation pursuant to Idaho Code §33-130.
- Pass the Praxis Subject Assessments for Idaho endorsement area(s).
For more information, visit the Idaho State Department of Education online.
Who must take the tests?
Candidates seeking initial certification and/or endorsement in Idaho must take the Praxis tests.
In Idaho, teacher candidates seeking a Standard Instruction Certificate are required to pass a specific Praxis Subject Assessment for the appropriate endorsement area(s).
Prior to entering a teacher education program at your college or university, you may be required to take the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests to demonstrate your qualifications. This is not an Idaho State Department of Education certification requirement.
