Overview of Minnesota Testing Requirements
As of September 1, 2010, the state of Minnesota requires candidates for educator certification to take the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE). If you are a new candidate for educator certification, please visit the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board website for further information. Candidates cannot take the Praxis tests for Minnesota licensure, and passing scores for tests taken prior to that date are no longer accepted. As of January 1, 2016, only MTLE scores are accepted.
Out-of-state candidates
As of August 12, 2016, Minnesota began accepting the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests for candidates trained outside of Minnesota to meet the Minnesota Basic Skills Requirement. The qualifying score requirements for the Core tests are listed in the table below.
