Utah Test Requirements

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) recently updated its educator license requirements. Candidates may meet the basic content knowledge competencies for licensure by completing the appropriate content test. Approved tests are for both traditional and alternative pathways to licensure.

Find your certification area below to determine which test(s) you need to take. For test prep materials, click the test title. Once you know which tests you should take, schedule your test.

Unless it’s specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, you can’t use a calculator on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).

Score reporting

  • If you test in Utah at a test center or at home, and your Praxis profile address is in Utah, your score report will be sent automatically to the Utah State Board of Education.
  • If you test outside Utah or your Praxis profile address is not in Utah, your scores are not automatically sent to the Utah State Board of Education. To have your scores sent to the Utah State Board of Education, you must select the Utah State Board of Education (state code 8375) as a score recipient when you register.
  • For all methods of Praxis testing, to request additional score reports you must select the Utah State Board of Education (state code 8375) with each additional score report request.

If you previously tested and did not indicate the Utah State Board of Education (state code 8375) as a score recipient, please contact the USBE to request manual entry of these prior scores.

Optional test requirements

Unless otherwise specified, the respective Praxis tests listed below are an option for meeting licensing requirements. They are not required, meaning every candidate does not have to pass the test to be awarded the specified license area or endorsement. Candidates may choose to meet competencies for licensure in other ways besides taking the Praxis test.

For more information on licensing requirements, visit the USBE Licensing Website.

While the USBE may accept demonstration of these competencies with either the Praxis or other demonstrated competency, these options are for license requirements only. Teacher preparation programs may have program requirements that are in addition to Utah licensure rules, which may include Praxis exams. Teacher candidates should be informed that their program may not recommend them for a Professional Educator License if they do not meet program requirements. Individuals are encouraged to clarify program requirements with their university or educator preparation program.
