Vermont Test Requirements

Find your certification area below to determine which test(s) you need to take. For test prep materials, click the test title. Once you know which tests you should take, schedule your test.

Unless it’s specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, you can’t use a calculator on any Praxis tests (see Calculator Use).

Score reporting

  • If you test in Vermont at a test center or at home, and your Praxis profile address is in Vermont, your score report will be sent automatically to the Vermont Agency of Education.
  • If you test outside Vermont or your Praxis profile address is not in Vermont, your scores are not automatically sent to the Vermont Agency of Education. To have your scores sent to the Vermont Agency of Education, you must select the Vermont Agency of Education (state code 8410) as a score recipient when you register.
  • For all methods of Praxis testing, to request additional score reports you must select the Vermont Agency of Education (state code 8410) with each additional score report request.

Exemption from taking Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) and Praxis Subject Assessments

  • candidates who qualify for a Level II license and who have at least 3 years employment experience within the past 7 years as a licensed educator in the endorsement area being sought
  • candidates who otherwise qualify for licensure or endorsement and who have achieved National Board Certification in the comparable endorsement area

Tests required for all licensure areas

All candidates who are seeking initial licensure in Vermont and are not exempt are required to meet passing scores established by the Vermont Standards Board of Professional Educators (VSBPE) on all three Core tests.
