ETS research confirms that students' motivation in taking learning outcomes assessments has a significant impact on their test performance. In order to help you motivate students to perform their best and increase participation, ETS offers performance-level certificates for students taking the online Standard form of the ETS® Proficiency Profile. These certificates can provide students with motivation to do well, which ultimately helps institutions to better position themselves for accreditation and performance funding. Plus, since these certificates are electronic, students can share them with an unlimited number of recipients in academia and beyond.
Each performance level is clearly defined on the certificate and includes a description of the Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Critical Thinking skills typically demonstrated by individuals scoring at each level.
Certificates are available for qualifying scores on the online Standard form of the ETS Proficiency Profile assessment as shown in the samples below:
- Level 1 Proficiency Certificate (Sample) — total score range 430–449
- Level 2 Proficiency Certificate (Sample) — total score range 450–470
- Level 3 Proficiency Certificate (Sample) — total score range 471–500
Note: Certificates are not available to students taking the Abbreviated Form or the paper-and-pencil Standard Form of the ETS Proficiency Profile.
Earning a Certificate
The score ranges used for each of the certificate levels were calculated by analyzing ETS Proficiency Profile results earned by test takers between 2006 and 2012. The score range assigned to each certificate level is the range of scores earned by test takers classified as “proficient” in all three skills areas. Therefore, in order to receive a Level 3 Proficiency Certificate, a student must earn a total score between 471 and 500. That score range should also coincide with achieving Level 3 Proficiency in Writing, Math and Reading/Critical Thinking.
Students who qualify for a certificate will receive an email notification with instructions for retrieving the certificate from the online student portal at myresultscentral.ets.org. The first time students access the portal, they must connect to the site using the link in the email notification. Students will be asked to verify their last name and then sign in or create an account.
Note: The MyResultsCentral log in information is different from the user ID/user name and password established when taking the assessment.
Students will need to create a new account the first time they connect to MyResultsCentral. Once logged into the student portal, students can:
- view their score reports
- view their certificates (if applicable)
- save/print a PDF version of their certificates
Order tests, manage test administrations, run reports (for existing customers only)
Compare the performance of your students with those of a large group of students at other institutions.
