Kelly M. Bruce was a senior research project manager in the Research division at ETS until June 2023. From 1996, she was involved in teaching and researching adult and adolescent literacy in a variety of settings. Most recently, her work was focused on the design of assessments of foundational reading skills and on scenario-based assessments of reading comprehension. She developed these assessments for a variety of large-scale projects at both the national and international levels, including the Reading for Understanding initiative, the Program for International Student Assessment, and the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies.
Before coming to ETS, she worked at the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. While at NCSALL, she worked on a large-scale adult literacy assessment and in website design based on the findings of the assessment. Bruce earned a B.A. in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. in English at the University of Richmond.
