John Davis is an impact research scientist in the Research & Development division at ETS. He received a Ph.D. in second language studies from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 2012, an M.A. in applied linguistics from the University of Melbourne in 2005, and a B.A. in English from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1994.
Davis has an extensive background in English language teaching, teacher training, assessment, and program development/evaluation. His research has focused on strategies and policies of assessment-driven educational improvement and accountability in language programs. Davis has conducted research, training, and consulting in higher education, nonprofit, and government contexts.
His publications have appeared in top journals such as Language Learning and The Modern Language Journal, as well as in numerous edited and authored books. Davis has long experience editing and reviewing language education publications and is currently an associate editor for ETS technical review.
Davis primarily works on research and development initiatives related to new products for global English learning and teaching.
