Ilona Minchuk

Ilona Minchuk is a mathematics assessment specialist in the ETS Research Institute. She supports programs, such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), by writing and reviewing the accuracy and appropriateness of practice-forward mathematics items, assuring the alignment of those items to frameworks, constructing test forms, and reviewing training sets for constructed-response items for scoring across grades 4, 8, and 12. She also took part in project work for research groups, such as the “Using Process Data to Explore Grades 4 and 8, Student Calculator Use on the NAEP 2019 Mathematics Assessment” project. She has also supported the Texas Educator Certification Program (TECP) by maintaining responsibility for developing items, reviewing the accuracy and appropriateness of mathematics items, and assembling and reviewing sets of constructed-response items for scoring.

Before joining ETS in 2011, Ilona gained more than 18 years of experience teaching mathematics at various grade levels in New Jersey, Brooklyn, Israel, and Azerbaijan. She also has a background in teaching science at the elementary level. In addition to English, she is fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in Russian and Hebrew. She holds certificates for Teacher of Mathematics and Teacher of Students with Disabilities in the State of New Jersey. Ilona earned her M.Ed. in general education and special education, grades 5–9, from Touro College in Brooklyn, New York, as well as her M.A. in mathematics from Baku State University in Azerbaijan. She has also completed coursework at College Ahva in Israel toward a science teacher degree.
