Jan Marie Alegre is a senior client management lead in the ETS Research Institute. Her primary responsibilities include overseeing the development of core and subject-specific survey questionnaires for NAEP assessments. She collaborates with ETS colleagues in assessment development, platform development, data analysis and reporting, as well as with members of NCES, to ensure that NAEP survey questionnaire content is grounded in research, valid, reliable, and informative. Jan previously led survey questionnaire development for the NAEP writing and social studies assessments. She also worked in the ETS-DAR NAEP Reporting Group, serving as an author and the group’s main survey questionnaires content lead.
In addition to Jan's work in NAEP, she previously served as the framework development lead for the PISA 2022 contextual framework development project, and a research scientist for Tripod Education and Education Elements. Before joining ETS full-time in December 2014, Jan was an ETS Princeton Internship Collaborative and Summer Pre-Doctoral Research Experience fellow and an intern in assessment development for the SAT.
Jan earned her Ph.D. in psychology and social policy and her M.A. in social psychology from Princeton University, as well as her B.A. in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. She also earned her teaching certificate from Princeton's McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning.
